South Ribble Explorer Scout Unit is a co-educational section of 14 to 18 year olds from the suburban / rural area to the south of the city of Preston in central Lancashire. Management of the Unit is the responsibility of the South Ribble Executive Committee who delegate the routine running of the Unit to the District Explorer Scout Commissioner with support of the District Explorer Scout Administrator.
Within the District we have 8 Units and a Young Leader Unit. The Units meet on a weekly basis while the Young Leader Unit meets less frequently, usually once a month. Members can attend any meeting although they normally go to the Unit nearest to their home. All the Units provide the members with a full programme of activities and social events details of which can be found in the Programmes area.
The Leadership team recognise the fact that the Explorers are at an age when they have commitments at school and college. It is for this reason that the programmes are flexible and are designed to enable the Explorers to miss meetings when they have a lot on during revision and exam time. The programme is not just there to provide Explorers with entertainment, you will be given the opportunity to work towards a series of Scouting Awards and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards at the same time. The top awards, The Queens Scout Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, are recognised by many employers as a sign of commitment in young people.
